How Does Consigning Work?
When you consign at The Wearhouse, you make 50% of the selling price.  Items are displayed for two months.  Clothing, shoes & handbags are marked down on a regular basis.  You may check on your account at any time, and are entitled to money on your account at any time.  When you bring items to us, you will be given a receipt with the end date of your consignment.  If there are any unsold items remaining after 60 days, you have two choices.  If we don't hear from you within 5 business days after the end date, your items will become property of the Wearhouse.  We donate on a regular basis to the Lancaster Council of Churches clothing bank and/or the Mennonite Reuzit shops around the county.  If you want the unsold items back, you need to contact The Wearhouse within 5 business days of the consignment end date.   We will pull your items and have them ready for you; we appreciate a few days advance notice.   Any unsold items not picked up within one week of your call will be donated.  We must abide by these end date guidelines due to the volume of our business.

Do I Have to Make an Appointment?
No.  Just call and let us know what day of the week works for you.  Once your'e on our book for a particular day, you can come anytime the store is open that day.   We try to make it convenient for our consignors, so we do not limit you to a time of day.   Please allow 15-20 minutes for us to go through your consignment.  You will need to take back any items we cannot accept.  You may 'drop and run', but you must return the same day for any unwanteds.  

How Does Cash Up Front Work?
The Wearhouse is the only area shop that offers you the choice.  Those who choose to receive cash up front for the items do so for the convenience.  There are no dates to remember to check in with the store to see when your items sell.  You can bring your items in and receive instant cash.  The Wearhouse generally pays 25% - 40% of the estimated asking price.  We take the risk that the item sells at a reduced price or possibly not at all.  

How Should I Bring Clothing?  Is there a minimum or maximum amount?

NEATLY FOLDED or ON HANGERS.   We prefer clothing be neatly folded in a shopping bag or laundry tote (no large trash bags, as this means your items are more than likely wrinkled).   If your items are best on hangers, that's okay too.  Your hangers will be returned to you.   Appearance is everything.  Crisp, fresh & pressed!   Quality is more important than quantity.  While there is no maximum amount of clothing you can bring in to our shop, we may ask you to make two separate drop off dates.

What Kinds of Clothing Do You Accept?
Basically, there are two main criteria for consigning at The Wearhouse.  First, clothing must be in current style.  Therefore, clothing should be 3 years old or less.   Our acceptance policy is based on what sells best.   Second, better name brand clothing sells best.  Generally, clothing purchased at the mall or through a catalog is desirable.  We do not take clothing from discount stores such as Walmart or Kmart.  We do not accept inexpensive store brands such as Kohls Sonoma/SO.  Please refer to our Guidlelines for more details on what types of items we do and do not accept. 

What Name Brands Do You Take?
Obviously, the better name brands sell best.  At any consignment shop, when customers are buying gently worn clothing, they look for the better quality brands that have a reputation of holding up wash after wash.  Brands for children like Gymboree, Gap, Old Navy, Childrens Place, Ralph Lauren, Lands End.  Like other shops, we don't accept discount store brands like Faded Glory, Basic Editions, Wonderkids, Sonoma. Juniors clothing labels include American Eagle, Aeropostale, Abercrombie & Fitch, Hollister, Roxy, JCrew. 

What  Season Are You Taking?
     January-March = Spring     April-June = Summer    July-September = Fall   October-December = Winter

Do You Have Sales?

There's always a sale at The Wearhouse!  Our tags automatically reflect regular markdowns every 20 days or so.  We also offer "Comback Bucks" at the bottom of each receipt.  Typically the discount is $3 off your next $30 purchase, but based on your purchase, this discount can be as much as $10 off your next $30 purchase!   Of couse, make sure you sign up to receive emails from The Wearhouse to be kept updated on Girls Nights, Semi-annual Fill a Bag Sales, etc.

Do You Have Layaway?

Yes.  The terms for our layaway program are 20% down, pickup within 60 days.  There will not be any reimbursement of downpayment if layaway is not picked up within 60 days.
